Amplifier Switching Mode Power Supply Overview
Hi, in today's video I'll show you a simple inverter switch mode power supply to converter 12 volt DC to a dual rail power supply for an amplifier project. The circuit is really simple and you do not need any IC to implement this.
The circuit is very straightforward: the two power MOSFETs start to oscillate as soon as the circuit is powered. They turn ON and OFF in compliments of each other and this in turn switches the power supply back and forth across the primary winding halves. The output voltage is set by the input voltage and the ratio of the primary turns to the secondary turns.
Since this is a high frequency inverter, the transformer used is a ferrite cored power transformer. An iron cored transformer would overheat and get destroyed.Ferrite power pulse transformer for high frequency inverters electrobuff.blogspot.com
At the secondary, the high frequency high voltage AC is rectified by a bridge rectifier composed of high switching or fast recovery diodes to DC which is then filtered and smoothened by a filtering capacitor to obtain low ripple output DC voltage.
