What's up guys? In this video I'll show you how a smartphone charger works with a practical circuit diagram, which should offer a basics in switch mode power supplies.
The circuit is a self oscillating network. Positive feedback from the auxiliary winding (12 turns coil) facilitates faster turn on and turn off of the power transistor MJE13007. It is a classic flyback topology SMPS(Switch Mode Power Supply).
At the secondary, the induced high frequency voltage is rectified by a diode, then filtered by an inductor and capacitor network to obtain low ripple constant DC.
Output voltage sensing feedback and regulation is done indirectly on the primary side using the auxiliary winding, a zener diode and an additional transistor Q1.
The transformer is a pulse transformer (ferrite transformer) suitable for high frequency operation and has a small air gap to prevent saturation.
